The person I choose to do my biography on was Ruth Handler the creator of the Barbie doll. I choose her because when I was a child that was all I did, play with my Barbie dolls. Ruth Handler born November 4, 1916 grew up in Denver Colorado. She did not have many opportunities growing up, her father was a black smith and her mother was illiterate. Ruth’s parents were from Switzerland but she grew up in Denver with her 10 siblings. She had taken a trip to Hollywood California and ended up staying and living there with her husband.
When you think of Ruth Handler you think of a Barbie doll, but she also created a line of artificial foam breasts for woman who had breast cancer like herself. After 15 years of doing that Ruth and her husband went on to creating dollhouses and Barbie dolls. Barbie dolls have shaped American society because it has let kids pretend to be who ever they wanted to and helped children role play to figure out who they wanted to be in their future.
Reading all of this information on Ruth Handler was very inspiring to me because I feel like I am an Entrepreneur myself. Doing this biography on Ruth was personal to me because her idea turned into something that will never go away, dolls will always be around thanks to her idea. Ruth harnessed her vision of creating a doll named after her daughter. She did not stop working until she created her idea and it blossomed into a huge corporation. Ruth had already had people in her life that could help her because of her past line of foam breasts. By starting in the toy making business Ruth was one step closer to creating the doll she had wanted to.
